My first 1:18 Le Mans car. I got an email from Flying Lizard last week that everything at their shop was 50% off. I guess maybe they're closing down current operations and reorganizing things in light of the merger. At least I hope that's the case. I don't think they're throwing in the towel or anything...
Check out the track map!
One more, thought the reflection was cool:

I really hoped that Flying Lizard would be back in in GTE-LM for USCR with the new 991 RSR. I think it would have looked pretty good in their livery.

Totally agree! Do you happen to know what they're doing for sure? I think the last I saw was that they said something like "see you in 2014" but had no details on class entry, etc. I could probably dig around a little and find out I guess...still, I wonder why they aren't trying to get people excited for whatever's next. They need to step up their PR/social media/marketing efforts!

I have no idea. I would guess that maybe a USCR entry in the lower GT class with the Porsche 991 America would be possible. Don't see a different playing field for them, maybe the US Yokohama Porsche Cup?
About that marketing/social media efforts: Many companies or race teams could really use some help - they just don't get what enthusiasts want so see in their facebook streams. I also thought about offering my help to some of these firms, but I can't see them being interested.

I imagine a lot of race teams probably don't have the cash to hire someone solely to handle social media, even though that's exactly what they need. I follow TONS of race teams on FB as I'm sure you do and the content is desperately thin. Dempsey has improved recently, but that's about it. Hell, I see more content coming from the drivers on instagram than I do coming from their teams. There are just a ton of ticket and merch sales that they're leaving on the table by slacking on that front I think.

Not only teams lack proper facebook marketing, even whole car companies. The either post something utterly irrelevant and too uninteresting to share, or just once in 4 weeks. By that they get out of focus, especially in times where the facebook stream is flooded with information.
What we want to see is interesting news, the newest stories, stunning pics, basically stuff that one would share aswell. Damn it, I really need to start an agency or something. :D

I was thinking the same thing. We should probably partner up and get this thing going. Shall I draw up the papers for the LLC filing?

Sure thing, I will ask the german authorities tomorrow how many folders of paperwork they would like to have filled out.

Oh god there are german authorities involved? I didn't know there were german authorities involved...

With me being a german there sureley will be at least 3 authorities involved. And boy are they fun. I mixture of non-existent humour, incompetence, bad mood and laziness.

Es tut mir leid... The complexity of running a multinational business probably prevents us from getting this off the ground. Simple solution: move to the US immediately. With the Unified series taking off next year this is clearly the land of opportunity!

Funny you say that, I am currently applying for 2 semesters abroad. The destination would be the US, but I have no idea where to go/where to apply. If it all goes well I will be there at August 2014, so right in time for Petit Le Mans!

Well that is exciting! I've lived here for 30 years - let me know if you have any questions; perhaps I can be of some use lol

Definetly going to keep that in mind. Very exciting indeed, I have never been anywhere outside of europe, so this really is a new chapter for me.

I dont know where in Germany you currently live, but my advice is to eat your fill of currywurst while you can. I became addicted to it in Munich. It's extremely hard to find here. In fact, there is only one place that sells it regularly in Philadelphia.

Currywurst is awesome. I am from Nürnberg, Bavaria, that's about 120km away from Munich. I guess I could live a year without. The bigger problem will be the beer. The few american beers I have tried were... questionable in taste.

You won't have to live without beer because a) American beer is awesome, you just didn't have any that was good; our craft brewing scene is absolutely the best it's ever been...so much beer currently available in truly extraordinary quality and style variety and b) we have all of the beer that you have in Germany. Seriously. I came home from Munich last October and realized that the Whole Foods grocery store across from my house carries most of what I drank while I was away. The schnapps selection, however, is a bit lacking here. Of course, it all depends where in the US you end up... I'm only speaking for Pennsylvania.
Proof that we do have some of the things you like (the beer is 1L of Hofbrau original):

Oh wow. That is GREAT news. Now there is nothing holding me back. Beer and Gin Tonic is all I need to live.

...and cars. You need cars.

I want to fullfil a livelong dream of mine: Drive a Ford Crown Vic. I heard they are unbelievably cheap right now, so my plan would be to buy a state-owned Crown (Police vehicle or whatever) and enjoy it for a year.

Your life-long dream is to drive a wallowy slushbox?! My family had one - a metallic red Mercury Grand Marquis right around the time I got my driver's license. It was one of a long line of domestic land yachts. Others included the Lincoln Town Car (back when it was square) and the Buick Roadmaster (although sadly not the wagon).
We still ride in crown vics quite a bit, at least in Philadelphia, because almost all the taxis are crown vics. Shouldn't be too hard to have that dream come true!
My German dream has been to drive on an unlimited section of the autobahn in an M car or a 911, but I've failed that miserably so far. My only experiences on unlimited sections were as a passenger in three different cars - a diesel passat wagon, a Nissan micra and - get this - a late 90s plymouth voyager, which is a car so bad that I would refuse to ride in it at all in the united states. I always dream of shipping my E90 there and spending a day on the Hockenheimring but then I remember my budget!

Well, that is the big difference in automotive culture: We Europeans drive compact, manual, 4cylinder diesel wagons. And that's why many people - including me - dream of going to the US and buy a huge sedan with a V8 that is mated to an automatic. You always want what you can't have. And of course there is pop culture influence...
About Autobahn: The fastes I have driven is about 230, the fastest speed while being a passenger was ~260 in a M6.

I want one so bad. Could you tell me the price (if you would rather not that's fine)?
